How streaming platforms make money — and how you get paid

Live platforms don't pay you a wage. Viewers buy platform currency (tokens, credits, coins) and spend it on you: tips in open chat, private one-to-one shows, group shows, spy mode, and sometimes recorded content or fan clubs. The platform keeps a cut and you keep the rest.

That cut is steep almost everywhere. A rough split of 50/50 between site and model is normal, though the model's share often rises with volume. Payouts usually run weekly or twice monthly, with a minimum threshold before money moves.

The major platforms, and who each one suits

The sites are genuinely different — in audience, in tipping culture, and in how hard it is to get seen as a new model. Most established performers work two or three rather than betting everything on one.

Guaranteed $50–$500 an hour

What actually determines your income

New performers assume it's about looks. It isn't, mostly. The performers who earn consistently treat it as a scheduling and retention problem.

What a streaming agency does

A good agency removes the parts of the job that aren't performing. A bad one takes a cut for doing very little, so it's worth knowing exactly what you're buying.

The genuine work is unglamorous: scheduling around traffic patterns, running promotion off-platform, handling the DMs, tracking which hours and which sites actually pay, and dealing with account and payment admin.

Questions to ask before signing anything

The streaming side of this industry has a long history of predatory contracts. Before you agree to anything, get clear answers to these.

WHERE WE COME IN

How Voxy MGMT works with streaming platforms

We run the streaming side end to end — but the part that matters most is how you get paid.

  • Guaranteed hourly pay of $50–$500. Every hour you go live is paid, on top of your revenue split, whether the room is packed or dead. Almost no agency offers a floor like this.
  • Multi-platform setup. We get you live across the right sites for your niche rather than betting everything on one algorithm.
  • Schedule built around real traffic. We plan your hours around when your audience is actually online, not when it suits us.
  • 24/7 chat team. Trained chatters work your DMs while you're live and while you're offline, nurturing regulars into repeat spenders.
  • Privacy handled by default. Alias identity, geo-blocking from your area, and content monitoring — included, not an upsell.
  • Your own dashboard. Hours logged, what each hour paid, platform-by-platform revenue, your schedule, and a named agent to message.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need experience to start streaming?+
No. Plenty of performers start with zero audience and no streaming history. What matters more is whether you can commit to consistent hours — the regulars who fund a room build around a predictable schedule, and that takes a few weeks to establish.
What equipment do I actually need?+
Less than people assume. A decent camera, stable upload speed, reasonable lighting, and a private room you control. Serious upgrades make sense once you know the work suits you — not before.
How many hours a week does this take?+
Most people who earn seriously stream 20 or more hours a week across consistent slots. Fewer hours can still work, but the income tends to be lumpier because regulars don't form a habit around an unpredictable schedule.
Can I stream without showing my face?+
On many platforms, yes. It narrows your options and can slow the build, but faceless performers do earn well. We'll build the approach around whatever line you draw.
How does the guaranteed hourly rate work with my split?+
It's paid in addition to your revenue split, not instead of it. Your rate starts at $50 an hour and scales with performance, and it's agreed in writing before you start. A slow night still pays.
Can people I know find my stream?+
We configure geo-blocking so your streams aren't served in the areas you name — your town, your workplace. No system is absolute and we won't pretend otherwise, but the practical risk drops a long way.
